80th Anniversary Celebration

  • Fleisher Art Memorial 719 Catharine Street Philadelphia, PA, 19147 United States (map)

This year, we celebrate 80 years of service to the arts and culture field in the Philadelphia region. Join us as we celebrate this milestone!

The featured Keynote will be Margaret Middleton. Margaret is an independent exhibit designer in Providence, Rhode Island, working at the intersection of design and social justice. Middleton holds a degree in industrial design from the Rhode Island School of Design and writes about inclusive museum practice. Middleton developed the Family Inclusive Language Chart in 2014 and consults with museums on implementing family inclusive practice.

As a speaker and writer, Middleton challenges museums to do more to integrate inclusive practices into operations at all levels, offering examples for what these practices look like. Their writings have been featured in Exhibitor, Journal of Museum Education, Museums & Social Issues, and the Incluseum blog.

In a society in which people are assumed straight and cisgender until prove otherwise, museums that omit or ignore queer issues support a heteronormative, cis-centric dominant narrative.
